I hold a PhD in Comparative Sciences of Culture that I obtained at Ghent University in 2008, on the topic of female genital mutilation/cutting in Europe. I equally hold a degree in Occupational Therapy, and a Masters in Socio-Cultural Sciences, as well as various certificates (see my CV for more details on these certificates).

My latest CV can be found here.

Previously, I worked as senior research fellow and as an assistant professor in Global Health and Gender Related Practices at the International Centre for Reproductive Health at Ghent University in Belgium, and as coordinator of RHEA, Centre of expertise on Gender and Intersectionality in Brussels. I have also previously worked for Amnesty International and the Dutch-speaking National Women's Council in Belgium.

My work focused on sexual and reproductive health and rights, in particular on so-called harmful practices such as female genital mutilation/cutting and child, early and forced marriage, hymen reconstructions, sex-selective abortions, gender-based violence, and gender equality.

I have vast experience in research, teaching and monitoring of master and PhD students, publishing for academic and non-academic audiences, sharing research findings and providing expert advice with a wide variety of audiences.
